Frequently Asked Questions

How do you collect the data?

We work with local health departments to collect the data automatically. We work with them to set up a script to upload data to our API every night. During the upload process we remove any personally identifiable information such as names or addresses so that we do not collect those.

Why do the numbers not add up?

Not every case has every attribute filled out for it. If a case is missing an attribute, it will not be counted for that indicator.

How are the counts per city calculated? Why are there cities on this list not in my county?

We aggregate the case count by city from the address provided by the patient. Patients may have a PO Box in another city or county if they live in a rural area close to the county boundary or may be temporarily residing in the county.

Can you add an indicator to this dashboard?

While we are open to suggestions, we have a template that is used by all participating counties. Any additional indicator will need to be able to be used by most other counties to justify the time it takes to develop it on our end and potentially additional time for other counties to add the appropriate data to their spreadsheets.

Why do the numbers on this dashboard not match up with the state dashboard or other COVID dashboards on All Things Missouri?

There is usually a lag in the official numbers reported by the state and other outlets. A health department reports to the state when they have time, which means it doesn't always happen every day. The Missouri DHSS has a two-day lag in their reporting by design, so that the cases reported each day are more precise, as it allows additional time for health departments to report their numbers.

Even though the state does not collect probable cases, they are used by our dashboard because the protocols for a confirmed and probable case are the same from the point of view of the health department. Finally, additional verification is needed by the state for each death attributed to COVID-19 which is another source of delay. Each health department has its own internal record of cases in the city/county which is what we use for our dashboards. Using the internal record allows us to be as up to date as possible with our reporting.

Can you report the percentage of positive tests?

At this time, we cannot report this indicator for any county. Testing is a separate dataset from confirmed or probable cases, and we are not collecting this data from any city or county at this time.

Preguntas Frequentes
