This report provides a selected set of indicators related to youth and family. Maps and data are available for individual counties and groups of counties.
4th Grade Math Proficiency, Percent by County
This map shows the percent of fourth grade students who scored proficient or above on the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Mathematics test.
8th Grade English Proficiency, Percent by County
This map shows the percent of eighth grade students who scored proficient or above on the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) English/Language Arts test.
High School Graduation, Percent by County
This map shows percent of students grades 9 through 12 enrolled in public schools that graduated within four years.
4-H Contacts by County
This map displays the number of 4H contacts in Missouri in calendar year 2022 by county. This data is a summation of contacts from MyExtension and 4-H Online.
High School Dropouts, Percent by County
This map shows the percent of students who leave high school before graduating. High school graduation rates and dropout rates are important for assessing the well-being, health outcomes, and the economic future of a population or community.
School Attendance Grade K – 12, Percent by County
This map shows the percentage of hours attended by public school students grades kindergarten through 12. Numerator is number of hours attended; denominator is number of hours attended plus number of hours absent.
School Attendance Grade 9 – 12, Percent by County
This maps shows the percentage of hours attended by public school students grades 9 through 12. Numerator is number of hours attended; denominator is number of hours attended plus number of hours absent.
Childcare Capacity, per 1,000 Children 0-17 by County
This map shows the rate of spaces in licensed family child care homes, group child care homes, and child care centers. Rate value is per 1,000 children under 18.
Accredited Childcare Facilities, Total by County
This map shows the number of child care centers accredited by National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Missouri Accreditation (MO-A), National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC), National Afterschool Association (NAA), National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA), Council on Accreditation (COA), and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
Juvenile Law Violation Referrals, per 1,000 Youths Age 10-17 by County
This map shows the number of youth referrals to juvenile courts in Missouri for acts that would be violations of the Missouri Criminal Code if committed by an adult. Youth crime data can be used to assess community well-being, address issues related to housing, and predict morbidity and mortality.
Homeless Children and Youth, Percent by County
This map shows the percent of youth by county reported as being without housing. Understanding unhoused populations can help to address issues related to poverty, healthcare access, educational attainment, and workforce development.
Low Birth Weight, Percent by County
This map shows the percent of live births where the infant was recorded weighing less than five pounds, eight ounces. Low birth weight data are important because they help address issues related to community well-being, healthcare access, and nutrition.
Infant Mortality, per 1,000 Live Births by County
This map shows the number of infant deaths under one year of age. Infant mortality is an important indicator for assessing well-being, healthcare access, and factors related to environmental justice.
Child Abuse/Neglect, rate per 1,000 Children Age 0-17
This map displays the number of substantiated child abuse/neglect investigations for children under 18 in the state of Missouri. Data on child abuse and neglect can help to identify and prioritize outreach, education, and services to vulnerable communities and populations.
Teen Births, Rate per 1,000 Women Age 15-19 by County
This maps shows the rate of live births that occur to girls ages 15 to 19. Rate is expressed per 1,000 young women of that age group.
Teen Injury Deaths (Accident, Suicide, Homicide), per 100,000 Teens Age 15-19 by County
This maps shows the rate of deaths from homicides, suicides, motor vehicle crashes, and other accidents to teens ages 15 to 19. Data were aggregated over five-year periods in order to provide more stable rates. Rate is per 100,000 teens ages 15 to 19.
