Making an impact on your community often starts by taking inventory of your resources. For Katie Hogan, a 4-H youth development specialist with MU Extension, All Things Missouri was the best platform to document resources in the Northeast Region.

Katie was interested in gathering information on:

  • Schools,
  • Community groups and events,
  • Businesses,
  • Meeting places and contacts,
  • 4-H assets, events, programs, and enrollment,
  • and more.

Once Katie and her team collected information on these assets, they were able to upload the data on the locations to an interactive map on All Things Missouri. This interactive map will be updated annually for the faculty and staff in the region to use.

Katie and her team didn’t stop at mapping community assets, though. To learn more about the communities they serve, Katie’s team added demographic data to learn about the racial and ethnic makeup of their communities, investigated poverty levels, and looked into free and reduced lunch participation.

Using All Things Missouri to map community resources and learn more about the population in their counties with help Katie and her team make more data-informed impact and target new potential audiences for 4-H programming.
